“Prospecting” IS FUN!
Here’s the thing, people love the idea of making money, but they’re not willing to put in the work to achieve great success and prosper. The solution is straightforward. You pick up the damn phone. You answer when people call you; when people aren’t, you call others. If you’re in a sales position or anything commission-based, why would you sit around and wait for business to come to you? Do you like being broke and living paycheck to paycheck? Well, Seth, “it’s not my personality.” “I don’t want to come off as salesy or pushy.” “I don’t know what to say.” Blah, blah, blah. I’ve heard so many excuses it’s ridiculous.
Here are the facts….
Your bullshit excuses are holding you back from being incredibly successful. QUIT LIMITING YOURSELF!
“But people are going to yell at me!” Well, seeing as you’re acting soft as shit, maybe you need someone to yell at you and toughen you up.
Picking up the phone and calling people does not make you salesy or pushy. If you are coming off as salesy, intrusive, or scripty, you either have the wrong mindset or don’t practice the skill enough. “OMG, I have to practice?” Yeah, bitch. You have to practice to be the best at anything in life — Practice, Practice, Practice. Your job is not to sell someone on something. Your job is to have as many good conversations as possible. Provide others with grace and understanding. Love them and kill the mean ones with kindness until they love and trust you. Build relationships. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS! BUILD RELATIONSHIPS! Build as many relationships as humanly possible and have some fun.
There are many systems to help gather public information, such as phone numbers, emails, and mailing addresses. Start communicating with others, and great things will happen for you.
Do some research on what systems will help streamline your business. I won’t suggest actual systems here because everyone’s needs are different. But in general, every business professional needs to utilize a CRM. Live in your CRM. The initial setup may take some work, but adequately using a CRM will help you scale your business to the unimaginable.
If you’re actively doing follow-up and prospecting, the one thing I will recommend is my favorite headset. I love this thing. Not only will having a good headset save you a ton of time, but it’ll save your elbows.
